TEST OF ANTIINFLAMMATIONEFFECT OFAFRICAN LEAF ETHANOL EXTRACT GEL (VernoniaamygdalinaDel.)

Abstrak

The choice of anti-inflammatory gels islimited, whereas this drug is needed by people, especiallywith rheumatism. Previous researchers found that African leaf
water extract (Vernoniaamygdalina Del) had anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects, and African leaf ethanol extract had analgesic activity. This study aimed
to test the anti-inflammatory effect of african leaf ethanol extract gel.Steps of this study included the preparation of African leaf ethanol extract
(Vernoniaamygdalina Del) using percolation method, formulated it in gel preparation form, and tested the gel anti-inflammatory effect by using Voltaren®
gel as a positive comparison. The experimental animals used were male rats (Rattusnovergicus). Data obtained from rat foot measurements on plestimometer
was statistically analyzed using one way ANOVA method with 95% confidence level then continued with Duncan test to see if there were significant differences
between treatments.All preparations of African leafethanol extract gel (ALEE) were stable for up to 35 days.The results of ANOVA followed by Duncan test
showed that ALEE gel dose 7% and dose 9% did not show significant difference with positive comparison at minute 360 so it can be concluded that EEDA gel
dose 7% and 9% dose effective to cure inflammation.
